JOHN KEWLEY

Further to my last update on here, it is with great sadness that my good friend and fellow musician John Kewley finally passed a couple of weeks ago.

I first met John in 1979 when I was a young, gullible, naive schoolboy playing in my first band ‘Driving Sideways Blues Band’.
John stood in for a gig at very late notice.
He’d never met any of us before and he didn’t know any of the songs, but John never put a foot wrong that night and he was truly brilliant!
At that point I so wished that John would join permanently which he eventually did.

I knew I’d met a great musician and I also knew I’d made a friend for life.

Recently, through Facebook. I got in touch with John again and made the efoort to visit him at his home in Yorkshire.
He spoke about past bands and it was clear to me that the happiest time of John’s life was when we were touring round Europe in a mucky old van with no money. We didn’t have care in the world and we all felt free.

When I left John at his home only a few weeks ago, I had a feeling that I may never see him again due to my own touring commitments. That was sadly the case.

Rest In Peace my old friend
